Sydney Bookbinding

Welcome to my Bookbinding Blog

The making of books, the teaching of bookbinding and the association with other bookbinders and book artists has become the focus and passion of my life. Bookbinding has many aspects and we debate a lot about the precise definitions of various aspects but, working with our hands within this discipline, challenging our skills and creativity is intriguing, frustrating and exciting.

Concertina folder for photographs

Display concerting for photographs

The concertina form allowed me to make this display book or album to show 5 beautiful hand coloured photographs of a client’s parents. This allowed all the photographs to be shown at once or folded up to show only a couple.

The size of each panel was 305mm square so it was difficult to cover with one piece of  bookcloth and press each panel adequately to ensure good adhesion. We chose a rich tan textured cloth called Duo Scotch

I also attached the photographs the same way they were done in their original folders with ribbon attached at the back of the card behind the photograph. The photographs are simply slipped in under these ribbon corners and are not adhered in at all, can therefore be removed if required.

We were pleased with the final result.
