Although I was moving my bindery to a new address I managed to get finished this special publication. I, with other binders, purchased the text, which had thick paper and grain direction going the wrong way, but deckled edges which I liked, and set to work to try and do something interesting. I dyed and stained natural Kangaroo leather, played around with the shapes, changed my design several times then finally settled on a simpler version of the Barwon river through the bush and sandy soil. The book is quite thick so my leather and edges are textured hopefully to suit this fairly chunky volume.
The books completed will be travelling around and being exhibited in several places.
Email me if you would like details.
What interested me was that most of my childhood and schooling was done very near where these poems were written. I was therefore quite excited to read the poems and think of designs for this area of Victoria that I remember so well.
Hope you like it.
