In this workshop studentswill create a medieval style leather “girdle book”.
These books were worn by monks, nobles and women in medieval times. The long tapered tail at the end of the book was slipped through the belt or girdle, and the knot/knob at the end stopped the book from coming off. The book hangs upside down, for easy reading while still on one’s belt or girdle.
Joy Tonkin – a master binder and experienced tutor from Canberra – will be taking this workshop. Some leather paring will be done, but tools and all materials will be provided. Book early as spaces are limited.
