Sydney Bookbinding

Welcome to my Bookbinding Blog

The making of books, the teaching of bookbinding and the association with other bookbinders and book artists has become the focus and passion of my life. Bookbinding has many aspects and we debate a lot about the precise definitions of various aspects but, working with our hands within this discipline, challenging our skills and creativity is intriguing, frustrating and exciting.

Concertina structures

Christine, another UNSW (COFA) student, created this wonderful book for her second project. It has concertina folds either side of a tunnel book. The whole book is contained in a hard cover that hinges around to close away  her book. As you can see it is beautifully executed. A very creative book.

Husaini created this concertina book that also folds away inside hard covers.

Husaini made a book by combining concertina fold-outs as well as a pamphlet stitched booklet in the centre.

His book, as with many of the other students, shows a wonderful use of collaged papers and stencil cutting.

Another well executed and intriguing book.

This shows Husaini’s book open. It sits well in the open form and folds away into its covers very easily.
